With the 6% fall in Toyota
motor’s sales, world wide, in 2011, it lost its position as the world’s largest
automaker. Its Corolla, stood as a relief to the ailing company. It is
manufactured in 15 countries, and finds place in 140 markets.
Corolla’s fascinating features :
1. It is a small and inexpensive car.
2. It is fuel-efficient.
3. It is quite reliable.
In 2011, the company
sold a whopping 1.02 million Corollas. Even for Honda Motor, it was an
unfavorable year, owing to the natural disaster. The redesigned Civic brought
reviews that dejected the company. There was a 12.5% decline. Civic, which was
in the 5th place, lost its place, even among the top 10, in the
years that followed. On the other hand, the companies of other countries, took
the decline in the Japanese cars, as an
opportunity to rise. Volkswagen of Germany and Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors of
Korea, surpassed all other companies, to lead the car market. The Hyundai

recorded 1.01 million sales, has now risen to the level of the Japanese

The Japanese companies lost
their grip in the market, giving a chance to the other side, who left no stone
unturned in rising to the pinnacles of success. Customers worldwide, got
enticed to the new brands, which filled the gap. Kia’s Rio is the fifth most
popular car in the world. It recorded the sales of 8,15000. However, a lion’s
share of them belong to the previous generation Rio, which are built and sold
in Iran by SAIPA, which is a joint venture partner. SAIPA controls half the
Iranian market. Volkswagen is looking forward to become the world’s largest
carmaker by 2018. The company embarked on small and mid-sized vehicles, which
pushed its sales to incredible heights, in 2011, with three of them- the Jetta,
the Golf and the Passat.

These stood as the world’s
best selling cars. Minor modifications met the local needs at the global level.
The company managed to do this with lower costs. General Motor and
The 2015 Ford’s Fiesta
Ford Motor too, are likely
to follow the same footprints. Ford’s Focus and Fiesta stand in the 4th
and the 6th place respectively. The new Chevrolet Cruze is now the
world’s 9th best selling car.
At a time when other companies
have dominated the market, it would be an uphill task for the Japanese Honda
and Toyota to reassert themselves.
