Arvind Kezriwal's step forward to open Aam Aadmi canteens in the capital city of the second most populated
country of the world, is a laudable act. These canteens, where meals will be available at an affordable cost of Rs.10/- only, is going to be an oasis in the desert of materialism which has, hardly any time for looking into the hunger of the needy. Also, these canteens would become affordable for many new visitors to Delhi, who visit the city for various purposes. Many visitors find it difficult to afford to pay for the meals
and breakfast, which is beyond their economy.
Amma canteens have already been rendering wonderful services in Tamil Nadu. But highly affordable canteens of such kind, will go a long way in giving the valuable services in a crucial place and
capital city of the country.
However, the consistency in the maintainance of quality, hygienic and nutritious food will, nevertheless, pose challenges to the authorities. The lurking problems from the middle men and the authorities should be checked from misappropriating the public money meant for the purpose.
The setting up of a number of aam aadmi canteens in Delh, should become an eye-opener to the authorities of other countries too. This would bring down the attempt of the owners of many hotels which fleece the customers, instead of being humane. Government's intervention in setting up hotels and lodges, at an affordable cost for the travellers and visitors, is essential.
The chief minister of New Delhi, Mr. Arvind Kezriwal, formally approved the proposal by the Delhi Dialogue Commission (DDC).
