Is there a need for EU reform ?

It is felt by the member nations of Europe that they have been several challenges as result of falling into a union. The way the things take the course, cannot reach upto the satisfaction of all the members. The nature of the problems differ from one nation to the other. As such, each case requires a solution that is more or less unique depending on the regional issues. The problem of one nation need not be found in the another. Moreover, the common policies and decisions cannot provide solutions that suits the problems. It is true because the nations do not face the common social issues and problems at the regional level. The perspectives and political focus, if addresses the problems, more or less, some members only. The political views which have differed, with regard to the day to day affairs, too have given rise to problems which need a proper solution, on a nation to nation basis. Also, there have been apprehensions that the Lisbon treaty that suited a small number of nations, cannot address the problems of the Union that comprises 27 members today. The newer challenges posed by the 21st century has awakened the conscience of the member nations. Many of these problems need solution to be delivered in a shortwhile, instead of being defered.

Also, the reforms need to bring a change in the approach of the politicians and the representatives of each nation.in the European parliament. New methods are needed to tackle the new challenges posed by the renewed global competence.

The demand made by David Cameron is somewhat higher than the concern of the members on the other side. It is the question of a special status in relation to the EU, while staying united..

At the same time, the members of EU feel secure to stay united under the common entity because the issues at the regional level get dominated when compared to the major challenges which are faced, not only by them, but also by the rest of the world, like climate change, unemployment, energy crisis, crime, terrorism, security issues, globalization and its impact on jobs, social issues like migration. One of the primary benefits shared by the members, as a result of staying united is the common currency that addresses the trade challenges. The members want the existing treaty to be more secure, robust and efficient in dealing the day to day affairs of different nations looking forward to getting social and economic justice which are, perhaps, of the primary concern. The administrative affairs are expected to be transparent.
