India launched 5 satellites through its Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle ( PSLV C-28) on Friday, at 9:58 p.m. from Satish Dhawan Space Center located at Sriharikota, Nellore,
Andhra Pradesh. The satellites weigh 1,440 kg. This is, perhaps, the heaviest launch with regard to commercial purpose. These satellites belong to a U.K. based company. Of the 5 satellites, 3 are identical mini satellites of the Disaster Monitoring Constellation (DMC) while the remaining 2 are technology demonstrators - CBNT-1 and De-orbit sail.
"Extremely successful mission" are the words of A.S. Kiran Kumar, the ISRO chairman. It could be difficult to launch the satellites with 3-metres height, with the existing payload structure. However. the National Space Agency had taken care to design a circular launch adapter and a triangular deck for this mission. The DMC satellites will be finetuned into the Sun Synchronous orbit,
This is the 30th successful mission of PSLV. It has acquired an attribute, ' ISRO's workhorse. The DMC satellites are meant for providing spatial resolution and high temporal resolution for the observation of our planet. Each of the three, are separated by 120 degrees. They would help in surveying resources, environment etc. However, the primary aim is to monitor disasters.
