The German Defence budget


           
     At a time when the world witnesses global instability, the NATO members are expected to make the joint collaboration robust. It is astonishing that Germany has risen its defence budget by 6.2 % over the next five years. During the past five decades, the German defence budget despite being the biggest economy in Europe. However, additional funds are likely to be allocated for modernization of the German army and for its growing engagements with NATO.
       
            Today, the defence expenditure of Germany is 1.2 % of its GDP contrary to the 2% target recommended by the Nato, to contribute financially to the alliance. Thus, Germany seems to be restraining from involvement in foreign millitary engagements. However, 8 billion euros more through 2019 towards its defence.

                The official web site of German military stated 4000 German soldiers under NRF were certified as ‘combat ready’. At the core of the German troops of the NRF is Armored Infantry Battalion 371 from Marienberg meant for “treaty-obligated deployment” when 2013 came to a close.
            The NATO strategy in eastern Europe is not the only one to be funded by the German government. The new funds encompass the building of the army with which Germany can defend its geostrategic and economic interests worldwide, for which an additional 300 million euros is estimated. Cuts in social expenditure is planned to contribute the defence build up. The intelligence and security agencies are also likely to be expanded.
