In an attempt to garner the support of the member nations, for EU reforms which could address the needs of the people of Britain, Mr. David Cameron, the British prime minister kicked off a whirlwind tour of the four capitals of the European Union. He held separate meetings with the national leaders in Copenhagen, the Hague, Paris, Warsaw and Berlin.
His hopes of getting reforms done, got shattered when the leaders of France and Germany ruled out treaty change. Their aspiration reflects such a reform that is devoid of any treaty change. The accord between Angela Merkel and Francois Hollande, came as a blow to the British prime minister. To fulfil his promises to his people, Mr. Cavid Cameron needs to secure the consent of all the 28 member nations of Europe, and this would be a herculean task. The summit of Riga gave him the opportunity to have informal talks with the leaders of Hungary, Polland, Sweden and Latvia.
