Ko Phi Phi


           Ko Phi Phi in Krabi province of Southern Thailand, is an archipelago of six islands. 'Krabi' means 'sword'  An hour of boat-ride from Phuket, would take one to this paradise. The towering limestone surrounding the Maya Bay, adds another feather to its cap.

                Phi Phi Don is usage  in Thai language, which means an island. It is the most populated island of the group. It teems with visitors. Other islands of the group, Bida Nok and Bamboo island, are made of large lime stones jutting out of the sea.
                       According to the report of 2013, the population of Phi Phi Don is between 2000 to 3000. The limestone mountains with cliffs, caves and long white sandy beaches give a magnificent look. The Hat Nopparat Thara-Ko Phi Phi National Park which is a home to an abundance of corals and marine world extends 242,437 rai. The national park forms the part of the group of six islands known as Phi Phi. It is influenced by the tropical monsoon winds. The rainy season and the hot season are the two main seasons. The former showers from May to December and the latter heats from 17-37 degrees Celsius. The region is wettest in July and the driest in February. The average rainfall per year is about 2,231 millimetres.

                      The post-tsunami that follows 2004, has witnessed the construction of roads which are meant for padestrian and push carts to transport goods and bags.

                Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Lee are the largest and the most well- known islands. Phi Phi Don extends to an area of 9.73 sq. kms. It is 8 kms. long and 3.75 kms wide. Motor vehicles are only reserved for emergency services. Bicycle is the most important form of transport in Ton Sai. The largest ariports are at Krabi, Trang and Phuket. All three have direct road and boat connections. There are frequent ferry boats to Ko Phi Phi from Phuket Ko Lanta, and Krabi town starting at 08:30. Last boats from Krabi and Phuket depart at 14:30. The green season facilitates transport to and from Ko Lanta is via Krabi town only.
